Barbados Northern Attractions
St Peter's Parish

St. Nicholas Abbey

One of Barbados Northern Attractions is St. Nicholas Abbey, a great house with many chimneys, was built in the seventeen century and todate is still in good condition.

This house is well known in our history because of a fatal love affair between two good male friends and one woman.I understand that the house also have many antiques pieces from that time period.

As a visitor, interested in architecture or history of Barbados, you should visit this great house.

Visits to the Abbey are limited as it is sometimes occupied by out-of-town relatives. However, you can check with the Barbados National Trust to see when you can visit.

Barbados Wildlife Reserve

The Barbados Wildlife Reserve is like a sanctuary for many local animals especially the green monkey. Many birds can also be found here – from the sparrows and parrots to the peacocks and flamingoes.

There are also a few reptiles which are keep in cages but all other animals wander about freely. It feels really good to sit on the benches and watch the animals in their natural habitat.

This Wildlife Reserve can be fun for a few hours, especially if you have young children. Most days the green monkeys are fed around 2:00 p.m. and this may be your only chance of seeing these animals since they hide in the trees most of the time.

Morgan Lewis Mill

Yet another northern attraction is the Morgan Lewis Mill, the only wind-driven sugar mill still standing in Barbados. It was used in the production of sugar back in the eighteen century.

The Barbados National Trust now looks after this island treasure and it is a sight to see after all these years.

Since Morgan Lewis Mill is located on the northern side of Barbados, on a hilly plateau, you can take some breathtaking photos of the hilliest part of the island.
